Gun Safety Classes Soon Required in Arkansas Public Schools
Arkansas is changing things up a bit in a great way. Last week the state senate passed a bill and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders made it official that age-appropriate gun safety classes will be required in public schools.
I think this is a fantastic idea. Guns are a part of American life but unfortunately, we have also seen way too many senseless deaths from accidents with guns or a child has somehow gotten hold of a gun. We can't get rid of guns but we can teach kids what to do if by chance they come across a gun at their house or a friend's house.
Kids are curious but we need to protect them and protecting them with knowledge is ultimately the best protection.
According to a Fox News report, the Arkansas Board of Education will work with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to come up with a gun safety course. The law passed will mandate Arkansas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools will require annual firearm safety education.
The curriculum discussed could include videos, online courses and possible off-campus training. As far as live shooting instruction they are saying that could be a possibility but a parents' consent would be required.
The law should go into effect in the second part of this school year. What a concept! Teach our kids, all kids about gun safety...I'm all for that!
