The other day I heard the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler and it automatically made me think of the upcoming 'Total Solar Eclipse of the Sun' August 21, 2017.

That's right, on Monday, August 21, a total eclipse of the sun will occur and depending on what state you live in you will see a total or partial eclipse. I live in Arkansas and according to a chart from the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society this region will experience a partial eclipse with Arkansas seeing about 90% of the eclipse during its peak time. For about three hours the sun, moon and the Earth will be aligned in our solar system, allowing the moon to pass between the sun and the Earth temporarily blocking all of the sun or a portion of the it, depending on where you live. The Northern and northeast sections of Arkansas will get the best view of the eclipse at almost around 98%.

Do you realize this hasn't happened in 38 years in the United States?  And its been at least a hundred years in the state of Arkansas alone, according to the website Arkansas Skydome Planetarium.

The website says,Texarkana can expect to see less than 85% of the eclipse. Astronomy has always fascinated me as a child and still does today. Don't miss this rare occurrence!

Please watch this video to learn more about the total solar eclipse and what regions in the U.S. will be effected.

Remember special eclipse glasses or eye wear is needed for viewing the sun. Do not look directly at the sun. There will be several watch parties around the state for viewing the eclipse.
