First Entry Ever: 11-Year-Old’s Catch Makes Arkansas Fishing History
It's not every day that fishing in Arkansas lands your catch in the Arkansas record books.
Young Angler Lands White Sucker Fish Record in Arkansas
That's exactly what happened to 11-year-old Daniel Bridgmon, who was fishing with his father just below the dam at Bull Shoals on June 14, 2025. The young angler landed a 1-pound, 15-ounce white sucker fish that was weighed and verified by officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. His catch is the first entry ever into Arkansas' record books for the species. See a photo of Daniel and his fish.
Daniel's father, Thomas, tells the AGFC they were fishing where the big spring flows into the state park. At first glimpse, he thought it was brown trout, something Bull Shoals is known for, but the closer he looked, he couldn't determine what they had caught. The White River below the dam is known for its diversity and excellent fishing for anglers needing a challenge in Arkansas waters.

After putting up quite the fight, Bridgmon was able to reel the fish in, not knowing he landed an Arkansas record-setting white sucker fish.
Making a Move from Texas to Arkansas
The Bridgmons moved to Arkansas in January from Houston and have spent a lot of time fishing at Bull Shoals, and I'm sure it won't be the last. Daniel has also gained attention and recognition from media outlets across the state for his incredible catch.
