Blue Rooster Rising: Texarkana's Taste Buds Get Ready!

Texarkana you won't have to wait too long for a new ice cream store coming to the Arkansas side of town. Blue Rooster Scoop Shoppe at 1201 Arkansas Blvd will open soon next to Old Tyme Burger Shoppe.

Blue Rooster Scoop Shoppe

Blue Rooster Scoop Shoppe is locally owned and operated by Jason Johnston and his wife Joana. The couple moved back to Texarkana in 2023 and were looking for a business to open in Texarkana.

"After several sleepless nights and prayers, the couple decided to open an ice cream store," said Jason Johnston."

The couple are excited to bring Texarkana a locally owned ice cream shop serving handcrafted fresh homemade ice cream daily made in the store. They will be serving 12 different dairy flavors and 6 non-dairy flavors along with a paletas bar a Mexican-made treat, basically an ice cream popsicle. Joana is Hispanic and wanted to bring something back from her roots when she lived in Texas.

The Blue Rooster will also serve delicious Italian Ice in several different flavors. They've already experimented with a sour watermelon flavor, blue raspberry, lemon, all-natural strawberry, and a sugar-free green apple.

About The Johnstons

Jason a former military man told me the name Blue Rooster was inspired by a nickname his grandfather gave him when he was a little boy. "My grandpa raised roosters and whenever they began crowing in the morning, I would start crying, so my grandpa nicknamed me, Rooster, and the name stuck. On the other hand, blue is his wife's favorite color so they combined the two to come up with the name.

When I stopped by to talk with them they were working hard putting together chairs, and tables, plus working on the interior, which of course will be blue. If all goes well, The Johnstons are hoping to open by the middle of April. With the long hot summer ahead, the Blue Rooster will be a great place to gather with family and friends.
