Did You Know the World Famous Dancing Umpire is From Texarkana?
With the baseball season in full swing, no pun intended, there's one baseball team that goes bananas every time a player slides into home base.
The Savannah Bananas
The Savannah Bananas is a fun, zany, baseball team reminiscent of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.
The Savannah Bananas baseball team throws in wacky rules and crazy, goofy antics with their athletic ability for a night of pure entertainment. You never know what's going to happen in the infield much less the outfield when the game begins.
Arkansas Ties
The best part is The Savannah Bananas have 3 players from Arkansas and an Umpire from Texarkana.
Hunter Wilson whose nickname is "Cowboy" signed with the team in 2018 and played college baseball for Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College and Stephen F. Austin leading Eastern Oklahoma State to the NJCAA Region II Baseball Championship.
Jonathan Barrett an undergraduate of the University of Arkansas in Recreation and Sport Management has joined the team as a Digital Marketing intern.
Zach Phillips is currently a pitcher for the Savannah Bananas, Phillips was born in Texarkana, Texas played for the Texarkana Twins summer league went to Ole Miss, and played college baseball there before being drafted to the Kansas City Royals. Jonesboro, Arkansas is now his hometown.
Vincent Chapman known as the World's Only Dancing Umpire hails from Texarkana he keeps the fans engaged and entertained with his crazy antics on and off the field. He's been known to bust a move, do the robot dance, floss, and even start twerking on strike-out calls. Maybe he should be known as The Savannah Bananas Umpire from Texarkana, sort of like how that rhymes.
At this point, you may be asking so, who do they play? Their counterparts, The Party Animals are just as zany, and both teams have been selling out stadiums wherever they play. According to their website, they have been playing banana ball since 2015 under the Coastal Plain League and have been seen on CBS Good Morning, Good Morning America, Sports Center, and have amassed 575,000 TikTok followers, according to Fun in Arkansas.
