Free Pre-Fair Horse Shows Return to State Fair of Texas
Horse lovers, I've got great news for you: the State Fair of Texas is bringing back its popular series of free, family-friendly horse shows leading up to the 2025 State Fair. Beginning August 8, these shows will be held each weekend inside the air-conditioned Fair Park Coliseum and are open to the public at no cost.
Check out the pre-Fair lineup:
- RSNC Ranch Sorting (August 8–10)
- Youth Rodeo (August 16)
- Barrel Race (August 17)
- EWD Heroes and Hooves Show (August 23)
- NMDA/Donkey and Mule Show (August 30–31)
- AQHA/APHA/NSBA Show (September 6–7)
According to the experts, a standout addition this year is the EWD Heroes and Hooves Show. This is a new event designed for veterans and equestrians with disabilities. The inclusive competition highlights the healing power of horsemanship and provides participants with the chance to build confidence, connection, and resilience in the saddle.
The Fair also celebrates the return of the AQHA/APHA/NSBA Show, honoring the legacy of the American Quarter Horse, an iconic breed in the Great State of Texas.
Horse exhibitors can now sign up to receive updates and be the first to know when entries open by visiting BigTex.com/Horse. The webpage will host all relevant information, updates, and registration details.
These pre-Fair shows offer a unique opportunity to enjoy equestrian sports ahead of the main event. Whether you're a fan of fast-paced barrel racing or just looking for a fun weekend outing, there’s something for everyone.
The 2025 State Fair of Texas, themed “Texas Shines Bright,” runs from September 26 through October 19.
