What is Going on in Galveston, Texas? Why is the Water so Blue?
What is going on with the water on Galveston Beach in Texas? Yesterday, TV station KHOU captured what looks to be a pristine blue ocean, a rare occurrence for that part of the gulf.
If you have ever been to Galveston you've come to expect the ocean to be a murky brown color. If you want a more blue ocean you have to have to travel further down the gulf to Orange Beach, Alabama. So, if you're wondering why the water is so blue this time of year, a meteorologist with KHOU-11 says it's because when the currents from the Mississippi River move further out to sea it takes the silt or sludge with it.
Also, factor in that the area has had light winds for the past couple of days causing the silt to settle down into the ocean, therefore, clearing up the ocean to give it that beautiful ocean blue.
Road Trip
So, now may be the perfect weekend for taking a trip to Galveston. The last time the water was this clear and blue was in 2019.
