George Strait will return to Kansas City next year. The singer just announced a Strait to the Heartland concert for Jan. 25, 2020. Tickets go on sale May 17.

KVVU-TV in Kansas is among a number of local Kansas City media outlets to first confirm news of Strait playing the Sprint Center in 2020. It's his first announced show of 2020 and one of very few he has scheduled outside of his ongoing residency at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and in his home state of Texas.

Added to other dates listed on his official website, the Country Music Hall of Famer now has nine shows on his itinerary.

The new concerts may not rely entirely on hits. In March Strait released his 27th album Honky Tonk Time Machine, and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Album chart. His current single is "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar," now sitting inside the Country Airplay Top 20. It's his first Top 20 since "I Got a Car" in 2013.

George Strait Was One Lucky Son-of-a-Gun In 1981

The last time Strait played the Sprint Center was in 2012. A scheduled February stop was canceled just three songs into the singer's set. Opening act Martina McBride had already played her full set, but a very sick Strait apologized, announcing he just couldn't go on and the show would be rescheduled. It was quickly rescheduled for the following week.

In addition to touring and recording, the 66-year-old played a very large role at the 2019 ACM Awards, with several performances and a presentation. His most-anticipated show of 2019 has to be an Aug. 17 date at Gillette Stadium Foxboro, Mass., with Blake Shelton and Cody Johnson.
