Have You Ever Wondered Just How Wide Arkansas is?
Most people know that Arkansas is a small state but have you ever been curious to know just how wide Arkansas really is?
Width and Length
For one Arkansas is slightly smaller than the average American state. As far as the width of Arkansas from East to West, the state is approximately 270 miles across a little more than its length from North to South at 240 miles. It has a total area of around 53,000 square miles and is considered the 22nd smallest state in the United States. Arkansas ranks 29th among the 50 states in total area About 1100 square miles are covered by water while 158,000 acres are within 12 federally designated wilderness areas.
Imagine if you could fit the size of Arkansas into Texas it would take five times to do it, but Arkansas is still six times larger than the state of New Jersey.
Driving Across Arkansas
If driving across Arkansas it would take 6 hours from east to west and north to south. If you ever travel through Arkansas the National Scenic 7 Byway is one of the six most scenic drives in the state, according to Campbell's Car.com.
The Natural State
The Natural State has a vast landscape from the Ozark and Ouachita mountain regions in the northern part of the state to the flat and diverse wetlands and river-based agricultural lands of the east. The Arkansas River and Red River flow into the Mississippi River that borders the eastern edge of the state.
To put it into perspective Arkansas is divided into 6 regions, the Ozark Plateau region; the Arkansas River Valley; the Ouachita Mountains; the Gulf Coastal Plain; the Mississippi Alluvial Plain; and Crowley's Ridge.
Arkansas borders six other states Texas to the southwest, Louisiana to the south, Oklahoma to the west, and Missouri to the north.
