Here’s When ‘Tax-Free Weekend’ is in Arkansas And Texas
We are now in Back to School mode. Whether your kids are going to be in school in person they are going to need supplies and clothes. This time of year is always a great time to stock up with Tax-Free Weekends. When are they and what can you buy that is actually Tax Free?
We are fortunate in our area to take advantage of both Arkansas and Texas Tax Free Weekends.
Arkansas' Tax-Free Weekend is This Weekend! August 1 and 2.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 1, 2020, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday August 2, 2020, the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.
Texas Tax-Free Weekend is the next weekend August 7 thru the 9.

- Backpacks
During the sales tax holiday, student backpacks sold for less than $100 are exempt from tax.
The exemption includes backpacks with wheels and messenger bags. You can buy up to 10 backpacks tax-free at one time without giving an exemption certificate to the seller.
Baggage Items That Do Not Qualify
The following items do not qualify for this exemption:
- framed backpacks
- luggage
- briefcases
- athletic, duffle or gym bags
- computer bags
- purses
