Kansas City Southern (KCS) Holiday Express Coming to the Ark-La-Tex
It's about that time again for the Kansas City Southern (KCS) Holiday Express. Unfortunately, Texarkana is not on the scheduled run this year, however, you won't have to travel very far to get a glimpse of this lighted train with Santa Claus on board.
The Kansas City Southern (KCS) Holiday Express will be in Shreveport, LA., on Monday, Dec. 9, at 4PM in the KCS Yard located at 4500 North Lake Shore drive Gate 5. And, if you happen to miss in there, you can also see it in DeQueen, Ark., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 4PM in the 400 Block of East Stilwell Ave. Viewing the train is free to the general public.
Of course, leading the Holiday Express is the smiling tank car "Rudy" a flat car that carries Santa's sleigh, reindeer, and miniature village. The lighted train also features a gingerbread boxcar, an elves' workshop, reindeer stable, and a little red caboose. Parents and their children were able to visit with Santa Claus and his jolly elves and tour three cars out of the six-car train.
Seeing the kids' eyes light up and hear the cheers when the train pulls into its stops, is well worth the drive. The Kansas City Southern (KCS) Holiday Express final destination is always Union Station in Kansas City where it will remain for several days.
During each stop the KCS Charitable Fund made up of employees, vendors and friends purchase gift cards that are given to the Salvation Army. A representative from the Salvation Army is always on hand to accept the gift cards, which will then help provide warm clothing and other items for children in need within the community they serve.
Here are a few pics from a visit in 2017, in Ashdown.
