The Red River is nearing its crest across Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas, but determining how to get from point A to point B can be difficult with road closures. The river is cresting today at Pecan Point north of De Kalb at around 35 feet. This level is just below the all time records of 35.5 and 36 feet set in 1908 and 1935. The river is expected to crest Wednesday at Index Bridge on Highway 71 at 31.2 feet. It will then crest further east at Fulton, Ark., at 32 feet on Friday.

The following bridges remain closed across the Red River. In Northeast Texas, U.S Highway 259, State Highway 8, and Highway 59/71 at Index. In Arkansas,  State Highway 41, and U.S. Highway 59/71 at Index.

Just north of Texarkana, Texas FM 559 from FM 1397 at Wamba to the end of maintenance is closed. Also closed is FM 2253 two miles north of FM 2148 to FM 559. If you are traveling to Oklahoma from Northeast Texas, the best route to take is Highway 82 West to Clarksville then north on Highway 37 to the state line.

To travel from Texarkana to Ashdown, motorists need to take Interstate 30 east to Fulton, then north on Highway 355 to Saratoga, then West on Highway 32 to Ashdown.

Going from Ashdown to Texarkana, drivers will need to go east on Highway 32 to Saratoga, then south on 355 to Fulton, then west on Interstate 30 to Texarkana or east to Hope if that is your destination.
