Lee Brice + Sara Reeveley — Country’s Greatest Love Stories
Lee Brice and wife Sara Reeveley have a storybook romance -- just ask Brice.
“We met in a storybook way,” the singer told The Boot back in 2011. “I was walking on North Myrtle Beach one night, when I was there on vacation. I was around 18 years old, and it was just me and a few buddies, and we were looking for girls.
"It was raining and dark, so no one was on the beach, and then this girl walks by in this big ol' sweatshirt, and you can’t tell if she’s attractive or not. Just as she walked by, the light hit her just right, and I’m like, ‘She’s gorgeous,'" Brice recalls. "So I said to my buddies, ‘If she turns around, I’m going to go walk back to her.’ I looked back, and the next thing I know, she’s turned around, so I went after her. We sat down on the beach and talked, then I went and got my guitar and played songs for her on beach.”
That moment occurred about two decades ago, and Reeveley was living in Ohio at the time. The couple dated for a bit and then were "just friends" while Brice was in college; he dated other people, and she had a boyfriend, but something drew them back to each other.
So, Brice looked Reeveley up a few years later, when he was in Ohio on a radio tour, and that was that: They began dating, and Reeveley gave birth to their first son, Takoda Brice-Reeveley, in 2008. It was still several years before they got married, though.
"We didn’t get married right away because we didn’t want to do that just because we had a baby," Brice explains. "If we got married, we wanted to do it for the right reasons."
Brice decided that the right time to propose was on Jan. 2, 2012, in Key West, Fla. Of the proposal, he tells Us Weekly, “I walked around the corner [and] acted like I was putting on my bracelet, saying, ‘Hey, I think I may wear my rings tonight,’ and asked her if she would wear one. I pulled hers out of my hand, got down on one knee and asked her."
If fans want to know how Brice feels about his wife, they don’t have to look further than his music: His song “I Don’t Dance” captures their relationship by cataloging his journey from someone who once thought “I’ll never settle down” to someone who finds himself singing, “No, I don’t dance / But here I am / Spinning you 'round and around in circles / It ain’t my style, but I don’t care / I’d do anything with you anywhere / Guess you got me in the palm of your hand.” Brice says he initially wrote that tune for Reeveley's ears only.
"It's the most personal thing I've written ever. It was for my wife for our first dance at our wedding," the country singer tells People. "And it wasn't even supposed to be really a song on the record. It was nothing about that, it was just for Sara."
Brice and Reeveley wed on April 21, 2013. The video for “I Don’t Dance” features personal footage from their wedding.
Reevely gave birth to the couple’s second son, Ryker Mobley Brice, in December of 2013; their third child, a daughter named Trulee Nanette Brice, arrived in June of 2017. Between Brice’s touring schedule and raising three children, the couple is certainly busy, but Brice credits his wife for making it possible.
“It’s a balance, but we make it work,” he tells CMT News. “Sara is just superhuman.”
