The jubilant-spirited crowd waved and cheered as the train stopped at the railroad tracks on West 4th and east of Lelia Street near downtown. This marks the 26th year the holiday train has journeyed through 13 states and 7 locations in Canada bringing holiday cheer to towns and cities along the route.
Spectators began taking pictures as the train started to slow down featuring thousands of colorful LED lights and festive holiday designs on the side of the railcars. One of the sides opened up with an entertaining performance from the American Authors and KT Tunstall.
The musical artists welcomed the lively crowd with original music and holiday classics as the crowd bounced and swayed to the music with a few singing along. The holiday train was a prelude to the annual downtown Main Street Texarkana Christmas Parade.
The CPKC Holiday Train's mission is to help bring awareness to the importance of donating to our local food banks in the community. Before they left members of the CPKC Holiday Train presented an $8,000 donation to Camille Wrinkle with our local food bank Harvest Texarkana. Mayor Bob Bruggerman of Texarkana, Texas, and Mayor Allen Brown of Texarkana, Arkansas were both on hand for the check presentation.
"With this $8000 donation this will help feed 40,000 people this holiday season in our community," said Camille Wrinkle Executive Director of Harvest Regional Food Bank Texarkana
The holiday train has raised more than $24.3 million and has collected approximately 5.3 million pounds of food for community food banks in Canada and the U.S.
