Shania Twain Announces ‘Now’, Reveals Cover Art, Release Date
After a decade and a half between albums, Shania Twain is bringing fans her highly anticipated new record, Now.
Twain revealed her new project's title, cover image and release date on Thursday (June 14) via social media; she posted the artwork for Now on Instagram and tweeted the Sept. 29 release date, as well as cover art for "Life's About to Get Good," the album's lead single. Now has a black-and-white cover, on which the superstar is donning leopard print (perhaps a throwback to "That Don't Impress Me Much"?); at 51, Twain looks as stunning as ever.
Twain first premiered her single “Life’s About to Get Good” during her performance at the 2017 Stagecoach Country Music Festival in April, and since then, it's also been spotted in a 2018 Winter Olympics ad. It seems its lyrics were born from Twain's messy and devastating divorce from husband Mutt Lange: “I had to believe that things would get better / I tried to forget you, forget her," she sings.
“I let the songwriting lead the way and let the stories go where they wanted to go,” Twain says. “I wanted to make sure I nurtured the authenticity and the acoustic elements in the album … I wanted to be true to my influences and to myself, and, stylistically, it just ended up being very diverse from one song to the next.”
Though it has intimate lyrics, "Life's About to Get Good" is anything but a downer.
“I was at home, looking out at the ocean, and I said to myself, ‘Here I am stuck in this past of negativity, but it’s so beautiful out. I’m not in the mood to write a feeling-sorry-for-myself song,'” Twain recalls. “You can’t have the good without the bad. And that’s what the song ended up being about.”
There's not yet a track listing for Shania Now, but The Boot will keep fans updated as news comes in. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Twain's performance for Today's Summer Concert Series on Friday (June 16), on NBC.
