TxDOT Crews Take Down Remaining Old SH 8 Bridge Over Wright Patman Lake
Here is something to be aware of if you are traveling on State Highway 8 this afternoon. You need to be prepared for intermittent closures starting at 3 PM.
Crews will be removing the remaining portion of the old bridge over Wright Patman Lake near Texarkana. The bridge, which has already been replaced, is no longer in use.

Safety Zone in Effect on Bridge Over Wright Patman
The work is being completed by Longview Bridge and Road, a contractor for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). There will be a safety zone in place in the area during the removal process. There will be no public access in the construction area.
It is encouraged for you to take a different route during this time while the work is underway. Please be aware of the message boards that will be along SH 8 and at intersections in Maud and Douglassville that will alert drivers about the closure. If you would like to keep up to date on this, you can visit DriveTexas.org.
A New, Wider Bridge
The south bridge on SH 8 was removed earlier this year, and this week’s work will focus on the smaller north bridge. Both of the original old bridges were built in the late 1950s. They have now been replaced by the new, much wider bridge is 44-feet wide. This includes two 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders on each side. This bridge is almost double the width of the old bridges.
