The Texas Side Fire Department has some Summer Safety Reminders for its citizens and visitors.First of all, fireworks are prohibited from sale, use, or possession inside the city limits. Hand held sparkelrs are the only type of fireworks legal for use in the city. Fire Captain Chris Black says that officers and fire department personnel will be out during the holiday period issuing citations to those who are in violation.

Adult supervision is required any time fireworks are in legal use. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, fireworks are responsible for 7,000 injuries a year. If a firework does not function, do not try and relight it. Wait twenty minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.

The summer heat has everyone trying to stay cool. The advise you to have your air conditioner service by a licensed professional to be sure it is operating correctly and efficiently. Window units should be plugged directly into an appropriately rate electrical socket. Do not use extension cords or cut and splice a longer cord onto the unit as this creates a fire hazard. If the cord becomes damaged, it should be replaced with a new one from the manufacturer.
