Lights, Camera, Texarkana: City Eyes Film-Friendly Future
Will Texarkana soon be saying 'Lights, Camera...Action?' The City of Texarkana is looking at becoming a certified Texas Film Friendly Community. The Texarkana City Council listened to a presentation at their meeting on Monday, May 12.
The next step is putting together a formal ordinance, which will include guidelines for filming in the Texarkana area.
We reached out to Brooke Stone, Communications Manager for the City of Texarkana, Texas and she said,
We believe earning this designation will position Texarkana as an attractive location for film and media projects, opening the door to new creative opportunities and delivering meaningful economic benefits to our local businesses and residents.
She also said that they received a lot of positive feedback from their presentation given to the City Council last week. The community can help by showing their support through public comments, social media, or simply by expressing their enthusiasm to members of the Texarkana, Texas City Council.

If passed, then it goes on to certification by Texas Governor Abbott himself and will be listed as a film-friendly community by the Texas Film Commission.
When a town becomes a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community, it will receive training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission about the media industry standards, best practices and how to accommodate media production in their communities.
The City Council will vote on the ordinance at their next meeting on June 9.
