The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred near the intersection of Milam and Waterman Streets Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say 23 year old Kechshawn Heath was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Officers found a 21 year old man running down the street at that location suffering from a stab wound to his chest area. According to witnesses, the victim and Heath had been involved in an ongoing dispute for a period of time.

The situation deteriorated into a physical altercation between the two men. At some point during the fight, Heath allegedly pulled a knife and swung it at the victim. The other man suffered a large cut to his torso. Heath then fled the scene on foot, but was located by officers at a Lumpkin Street address. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bi-State Justice Center Jail.

The victim was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center by LifeNet Ambulance and underwent surgery to repair a large cut to his rib cage area.
