Removing the Cost Barrier in Texarkana

According to a press release, the Texarkana Promise Program is a last-dollar scholarship that allows students who qualify to attend college without the burden of tuition costs.

This program will help recent high school graduates who enroll at Texarkana College in the fall semester immediately following their graduation and meet eligibility requirements. Funding is available through completion of an associate degree or up to 60 semester credit hours, whichever comes first.

Investing in the Texarkana Region’s Future

The program was created in response to low college completion rates across Bowie, Cass, and Red River counties, which trail behind state and national averages. By covering the remaining eligible tuition after other financial aid is applied, the Promise Program will help make higher education more attainable for both current dual-credit students and recent graduates.

Expanding Access Beginning Fall 2026

Starting in fall 2026, the program will also cover dual-credit fees that are not funded through the state’s FAST program administered by the Texas Education Agency. This will ensure all students have a clear and affordable path to college, right here in our community.
