More great news for Texarkana as the Texarkana Independent School District just announced that Martha and Josh Morriss Mathematics & Engineering Elementary just won a $2,500 grant through the 2025 Dream Bigger contest.

What is the Dream Bigger Competition?

The Dream Bigger competition is a nationwide contest sponsored by Sparklight and rewards schools and other organizations in making a difference in STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Morriss Elementary came in second place!

Nicole Ayers, Technology and Robotics Instructor at Morriss Elementary, said in a press release that it was an incredible sight to see how the community helped support them with the online voting portion during the contest.

What Will The Grant Go Towards at Morriss Elementary?

She said the school will now be able to expand its project with the e-NABLE Uganda Coalition as they continue making prosthetic limbs for people in Uganda using 3D printing technology in making the prosthetics. Ayers said in a press release,

This funding will make a real difference, both in the lives of those we serve and in our students’ learning experiences

The grant money will be presented as a check by a Sparklight representative in the next few weeks.
