A New 1,720-Acre State Park Is Coming to Texas
In Texas, we will soon have another brand-new destination to explore in the Hill Country. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recently announced they have officially acquired 1,720 acres in Uvalde County for the future Bear Creek State Park.
The property is less than a mile from Garner State Park, which is now one of the most visited parks in Texas. This new state park will give Texans another chance to see the beauty of the Frio River and the surrounding area.
Funding a Legacy of Conservation
According to a press release, the land for the new park was purchased for $33.5 million using a one-time state appropriation and soon be developed through the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund. This $1 billion fund was approved by voters back in 2023. The fund is for acquiring and expanding state parks, so that Texans and visitors to Texas have more public spaces to enjoy throughout the years.

What Visitors Can Expect
Officials say Bear Creek will showcase everything people love about the Hill Country. The rolling grasslands, creeks, canyons and ridges. You will also have access to the Frio River, Spring Creek, and Bear Creek itself. Once Bear Creek State Park is open, the park will have hiking trails, picnic spots under beautiful Cypress and Live Oak trees.

A Growing System of Public Lands
This is just the latest addition to the state park system. Since January, Texas has added more than 6,800 acres of new parkland.

Soon, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will begin developing a plan and will ask the public for input to determine which recreational opportunities to add to the property.
