The I-30 Widening Project near Texarkana continues to progress. All closures are subject to change based on weather and other circumstances. But here is what to expect as they move from Phase 1A to 1B beginning this week November 1.

Construction Update

Beginning this week of November 1:

Here's what the transition from Phase 1A to Phase 1B will look like according to a press release Of course more than anything be sure to follow and be aware of all the 'Road Work Signs and directions!

If all work goes as planned and the weather is favorable, before the end of the week eastbound traffic will be shifted to Phase 1B configuration. Work will continue on the westbound lanes to prepare for a similar traffic shift in that direction.

Expected traffic impacts:

  • Shifting of eastbound traffic from current position to the existing right/outside shoulder and right/outside lane. Once this shift is accomplished, expect that some of the existing acceleration/auxiliary lanes will become a shorter lane for vehicles merging into the mainlane traffic. (Watch for merging traffic and prepare to safely move to the left as you see vehicles entering the mainlanes. Like the Welcome to Texas sign says, “Drive Friendly- The Texas Way!”)
  • Right-lane closures expected nightly, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Eastbound, beginning at FM 989/Kings Highway
Westbound, Richmond Road and IH 369/US 59 S area
  • Entrance/exit ramp closures expected nightly, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Eastbound, beginning at FM 989/Kings Highway
Westbound, Richmond Road and I-369/US 59 area
  • Daytime shoulder closures

Planned work:

  • Back-filling pavement edges. (westbound)
  • Adjusting existing signs and placing temporary signs. (eastbound & westbound)
  • Removing existing pavement markings and placing temporary markings to prepare for traffic shift to shoulder and outside lane.
