Texarkana’s 8th Annual ‘Wagons for Veterans’ Returns March 14

Texarkana is gearing up for the 8th Annual "Wagons for Veterans" at the Four States Fairgrounds to help raise money to assist local disabled veterans in need.

The "Wagons for Veterans" is set for Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10 AM, hosted by the Texarkana Area Chapter # 278 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 11:15 AM, and the food serving lines open at 11:30 PM.  Old-fashioned cooking will be chuckwagon style, just like they did it during those cattle drives in the Old West, with cast-iron pots and skillets cooking over an open flame.

I've been to the last three events, and let me tell you, the food was delicious, serving chicken-fried steak with gravy, brisket tacos, BBQ beans, mouth-watering chili, and homemade peach cobbler, to name a few. I guarantee you won't leave there hungry if you do it's your own fault.

The cost is $20 per plate for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. If you don't get enough the first time around, go for a second helping.

The 8th Annual "Wagons for Veterans" is not just food; there is plenty of entertainment, including square dancing, a live band,  bounce houses for the kids, a classic car-jeep-bike show, and several displays of military vehicles.

About Texarkana Area Chapter # 278 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.

Going into its 8th year, the Veterans organization has raised over $120,000, with the funds used to help with home repairs, utility bills, wheelchair ramps, funeral expenses, and food boxes for needy veterans coming through the local VA Clinic.

The money raised at this event also helps pay rent, medical aid assistance, hygiene packs for homeless veterans, work clothes and boots, school books, gas, burnouts, and donations to the Hero’s Pantry, which feeds around 125 veterans and their families each month.  Note: No funds raised will be used for any administrative purposes.
