City Funds Initiative to Support Families in Crisis in Texarkana, Texas
The City of Texarkana, Texas, is investing in a new software system that help cities locate the communities that have families in crisis. The Ground Floor Collective’s 100 Families Initiative will develop the HopeHub software system for the Texas side of Texarkana.
The city will allocate $25,600 from an opioid settlement fund that will help communities address opioid-related issues.
This new system will be able to evaluate families in 13 areas: food, housing, safety, substance abuse recovery, mental health, physical health, dental health, transportation, childcare, legal assistance, education, employment, and financial stability.
Kristina Rivas-Jones the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Ground Floor Collective, said in a press release,
By connecting families to essential resources and providing wrap-around support, we can help them transition from crisis to career, replicating the impressive results seen in Arkansas.
The 100 Families Initiative has it's roots in Arkansas beginning back in 2015. The number of people helped through it is impressive. Almost 5,500 people have been helped and of those over 1,000 people have progressed from crisis to career. The initiative expanded to the greater Texarkana region in 2021.
Planning and Community Development Director Vashil Fernandez said,
This investment by the City demonstrates a commitment to supporting local families and building a stronger, more resilient community.
There will be a check presentation and more information on the program on Tuesday, August 6 at 11 AM at the Texarkana Texas City Hall at 220 Texas Blvd. Texarkana, Texas on the second floor.
