Remember back in the spring when we were told that the city of Texakana Texas, would be getting weather siren updates? Well, the time is here. The Texarkana Fire Department will be kicking off the major safety upgrade this week.

Crews will be replacing ten outdoor warning sirens across the community. The City Council approved the updates back in March.

What to Expect During the Outdoor Sirens Upgrade in Texarkana

The Texarkana Texas Fire Department has partnered up with Omni Warn to safely remove the older sirens and install new Federal Signal equipment. Work is expected to take about two to four weeks, depending on the weather. While the updates are underway, some siren activity may occur as crews test equipment and ensure everything is working correctly.

Residents are also reminded that outdoor warning sirens are meant to alert people who are outside and don't realize severe weather is on its way. The sirens should never be your only source of information during a storm. Especially, now with so many personal electronic devices available.

Texarkana Fire Chief Chris Black said in a press release,

This upgraded system will give Texarkana stronger coverage, clearer sound, and more reliable technology that performs even in the most challenging conditions. When you hear these new sirens, residents can trust they’re giving the earliest warning we can provide.

Be Safe and Stay Connected With Hyper-Reach in the Texarkana Area

During the transition, TTFD encourages you to sign up for Hyper-Reach, the city’s emergency alert system formerly known as CodeRED. The system sends out National Weather Service alerts, emergency updates, and critical notifications. These alerts are connected to your address, so they are very specific to you when your area is affected by a severe storm.

Sign up at the City of Texarkana website. If you would like more information, call the Texarkana Texas Fire Department at (903) 798-3994.
