Do You Have a Misprinted $1 Bill Worth $150,000? Better Check
Are you one of those people with a money jar stuffed with $1 bills you save for a rainy day? If you happen to have some $1 bills in your wallet they could be worth thousands of dollars.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing says some 6.4 million dollar bills were printed with an error, and currency collectors are paying between $20,000 to $150,000 for those $1 bills, according to the website wealthynickel.com.
Misprinted Bills
The misprinted $1 bills were printed between 2014 and 2016 and have duplicate serial numbers, serial numbers are used for identification. When the bills were printed the mistake wasn't caught and collectors are looking for two bills with the matching serial numbers. So far, only 37 matching bills with the duplicate numbers have been found leaving millions more still in circulation.
How do you know if you have one of those bills?
- When looking at your $1 bill the series date is located near the picture of George Washington and it must read "Series 2013"
- The serial number must end with a star and fall between B00000001* – B00250000* or B03200001*-B09600000*
- The "B" Federal Reserve Seal should be above the serial number all bills have this
So, it may be time to dig those $1 bills out of that money, tip jar, or wallet to see if you have one of these lucky misprinted bills that could earn you a pile of cash. I'm going to start digging my dollars right now to see if I have one.
