The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department in conjunction with local, county, and state law enforcement will begin their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign August 15 through September 1. Law enforcement officers will be stepping up enforcement of traffic safety laws looking for impaired drivers. Overtime Funds for this campaign are provided by a Selective Traffic Enforcement Grant funded through the City of Texarkana, Arkansas, State of Arkansas and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The strong nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, and will be supported by national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Public Information Officer Kristi Mitchell said officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers during the crackdown and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired.

Those arrested for DWI face jail time, loss of their driver licenses, and steep financial consequences such as higher insurance rates, attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of job. When family, friends and co-workers find out, violators also often face tremendous personal embarrassment.
