East Texas Food Bank & DoorDash Now Deliver Food Boxes to Texarkana Seniors
The East Texas Food Bank has teamed up with DoorDash and their Project Dash campaign to deliver meals to Texarkana, TX residents who are enrolled in the Senior Box Program.
'Dashers' are delivering food boxes from one of the food banks' member agencies
to seniors in the area that might be homebound or have limited transportation options.
Operation New Day Food Pantry is operated by three Texarkana churches. This is one East Texas Food Bank's first pilot sites for the service. Three Texarkana churches are participating in the program; Twin City Church of Christ, Church of Christ on Pine
Street and Christ Apostolic Church, Blood of the Lamb Assembly. The pantry provides boxes to almost 45 seniors each month.
Twin City Church of Christ Senior Pastor David Watkins said in a press release;
"We are absolutely thrilled to offer this free service to our seniors in Texarkana. Helping hungry people is one of the basic elements churches should be focused on and it’s a blessing to help so many people who can’t stretch their dollars."
East Texas Food Bank serves 26 counties and has over 6,500 seniors receiving food boxes monthly.
ETFB Chief Impact Officer Tim Butler said;
“We are so grateful for Project DASH’s commitment to helping seniors with hunger relief.”
Project Dash will be adding more delivery locations in the future to areas that the ETFB serves. Longview began the service last week.
To qualify for senior boxes, applicants must be 60 years of age or older. There is also an income and residency requirement. More information is available at easttexasfoodbank.org or you can also call the ETFB at (903) 597-3663.
