Buying Online or By Phone Order
During the holiday period, you have the option to purchase qualifying emergency preparation supplies through various channels such as in-store, online, by telephone, mail, custom order, or any other method. The purchase of the item must occur within the specified timeframe. While determining the purchase date is straightforward for in-store transactions, it becomes more complex for remote purchases. The buyer must provide payment for the item during the designated period, even if the delivery takes place after the period ends.
For instance, if a customer enters their credit card details on an online shopping site on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 5:00 PM to buy a qualifying generator, and the generator is not shipped until Friday, May 3, 2024, arriving on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the purchase still qualifies for the exemption. However, if the credit card charge is declined by the payment processor at 11:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2024, and the buyer does not resubmit payment until Tuesday, April 30, 2024, then the purchase becomes taxable.
