City & Texarkana College Host EPA Brownfields Job Training
The City of Texarkana, Texas, has teamed up with Texarkana College to host a Job Training event alongside EPA Region 6. The EPA Brownfields Job Training Kickoff Event will be this Thursday, March 21.
This event is to get crucial information about the program's objectives and benefits to the public and will address the positive implications for regional employers.
Recently,$500,000 EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant was allocated from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This grant will be used to address the environmental challenges posed by brownfield sites while also creating job training and opportunities in our area. Brownfields are previously developed land that was either commercial or industrial and has been cleared for redevelopment opportunities.
Texarkana, Texas Mayor Bob Bruggeman said in a press release,
This workforce development component of the EPA Brownfields Program will empower Texarkana by offering industry certifications to approximately 61 unemployed or underemployed residents. This is important to our citizens as well as our local industry.
Executive Director of Community and Business Education at Texarkana College Mendy Sharp said,
We are thrilled to embark on this journey with the City of Texarkana, Texas, and EPA Region 6. This initiative underscores our commitment to nurturing individuals for rewarding careers, unlocking their potential, and fostering economic prosperity throughout our region.
This special event will start at 2 PM Thursday at the Texarkana College McCullouch Industrial Technology Center, located at 1222 Coolidge Avenue.
The event is free to the public. If you would like more information please contact Daphnea Ryan at (903) 798-3934 or email her at dryan@texarkanatexas.gov.
