Summer vacation is almost here. The best thing is that a vacation doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Yes, the "staycation" is alive and well and why not? It's less expensive and a vacation is really about giving your brain a rest from work and giving you some quality time with family.

Just in case you don't know what a staycation is, it's when you vacation in your own town but want to at least feel like you went out of town. The great thing about a staycation is you can explore your own town. Oh, but if you forget something? It only takes a few minutes to run back home and get it.

So, where are some good places in town for a staycation? I looked up hotel ratings on Yelp.com to find out what people where saying. This is what I found for the top three hotels to stay. All three have a pool with the last one being an indoor one. All three also have a gym and all three have an average of 4 1/2 stars.

1.  Holiday Inn Express & Suites Texarkana 4545 Cowhorn Creek Road, Texarkana, Texas.

Heather J. from Elgin, Texas. gave it 5 stars and wrote:

Very clean, very nice, updated, modern, good amenities! I was impressed! I would rank this hotel on pare with Marriott & Hampton.

Clare W of Fort Hood, Texas gave this one 4 stars and said:

Taylor at the front desk has superb customer service skills, he definitely makes you feel at home.  The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable.  The only reason I don't give this location 5 Stars is because I tire of the standard Holiday Inn complimentary breakfast. It's not the fault of the staff or location, but come on corporate let's get creative.

2.  Hilton Garden Inn Texarkana located at 2910 S Cowhorn Creek Loop, Texarkana, Texas.

Patrick T. from Kentucky gave this hotel 5 stars and said:

This hotel serves the best food of any hotel I've ever been in, and better than many expensive restaurants!  The food and service are both outstanding, and the hotel is very clean - had a wonderful stay here!

Bryan D. of Fort Worth gave 4 stars and wrote:

I would have given 5 stars if the breakfast was free or half price. I stayed here last week while on the move to Texas.  The room was really clean and the lady at the front desk was super friendly. The bed was soo comfy and I understand that the food is (really) good. I decided to eat at the crack barrel.  The breakfast, snacks were available for purchase and not free.

3.  Residence Inn Texarkana 3900 St Michael Drive Texarkana, Texas.

Frank C. of Memphis, Tennessee gave 5 stars and wrote:

Great hotel, and I would definitely stay here again. Front desk staff was courteous and friendly, and even let me check in several hours ahead of time with no problem. Lobby was spacious, well designed, and clean. The rooms were equally spacious and clean. Large bathroom and closet.

The location is good, right off the interstate, and within easy walking distance of multiple restaurants and an outdoor shopping center.

Complimentary breakfast was excellent. Oatmeal, eggs, waffles, potatoes, bagels, cereal, fruit, several juices and coffees.

Sai O. of San Francisco, California 4 stars and said:

This place is clean. Nicely decorated. Got plenty of amenities such as swimming pool, a tiny gym, full kitchen in the rooms, computers and tv in the lobby, wireless internet, continental breakfast, complimentary dessert in some evenings. The only problem was I kept having issues with the door card that I have to go down to the reception to reset it every single day. Besides that, it was a great experience.

That's just the top three. Check out the entire list at Yelp.com
