Taking a Deep Dive Into Lake O’ the Pines – How Deep is it?
If you grew up in East Texas, chances are you have been to Lake O' the Pines. This beautiful lake of 18,680 acres is nestled between some of the tallest pine trees in this neck of the woods, situated on the Big Cypress Bayou.
Lake O' the Pines may be best known as a fisherman's paradise, but Anglers travel from all over the U.S. to fish for some of the largest catfish you will ever see. While the lake has a variety of fish species, you are most likely to catch largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish, as there is an abundance of them on this lake.
How Deep is Lake O' the Pines?
According to A-Z Animals, Lake O' the Pines is 49.5 feet deep, with a water volume of 250,000 acre-feet, and a lake surface area of 18,680 acres.
Lake O' the Pines Original Name
Before the lake got its name, it was originally called Ferrell's Bridge Reservoir, named after the Ferrells Bridge Dam that flowed upstream to the Big Cypress Bayou, which connects with the Red River. Today, the dam constructed in 1955 is 10,600 feet long, while the spillway crest is 249.5 feet above sea level.
Fun on the Lake
Lake O' the Pines is not just a fishing lake. It's also home to three great swimming beaches located in the campgrounds of Brushy Creek, Alley Creek, and Johnson Creek. During the summer, boating and skiing are popular at the lake, just a skip and a hop away from Texarkana, and minutes from Jefferson, Ore City, and Marshall.
