Abandoned Ghost Town: SW Arkansas Hides Hauntingly Shocking Surprise
As we enter the spooky season in October, there's one place in Southwest Arkansas near Texarkana that holds an eerie secret.
It's Not Okay in Okay, Arkansas
If you grew up in this neck of the woods, you probably know about Okay, Arkansas, located east of Millwood Lake in Howard County. Okay is now considered a ghost town because the only things that are left are concrete slabs where buildings and homes once stood in this unincorporated community.
This abandoned town also had a golf course, baseball fields, tennis courts, a general store, a post office, and a meeting hall. The town never had more than 150 people living there, and by 1977, the population had dwindled to two.
How Okay, Arkansas Got Its Name
A local cement plant named Okay used to operate nearby and produced cement that was branded with the letters "OK."
Abandoned Town Was Once Home to a Limestone Mine
Okay, Arkansas was home to a limestone mine in the 1920s. The town had 40 homes, a church, and a railroad track. The mine was constructed to produce limestone and chalk for use in bridges and highways in Arkansas and other states.
The only thing left standing today is the church and two old streets that remind us of its past. According to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas, the plant was shut down in 1993 and totally abandoned in 1998.

Secret Hidden Oasis With Tropical Looking Water
Perhaps the biggest secret of Okay, Arkansas, is a mysterious hidden oasis that resembles a tropical beach with its white limestone shoreline.
The water may look cool, but most likely it's not safe; it's off-limits to the public as the property is privately owned.
