Robert Englund Thinks It’d Be Cool If Kevin Bacon Played Freddy Krueger
With Hollywood currently in reboot fever, not to mention our cultural consciousness’ current love of all things ’80s, there have certainly been whispers of reviving the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Whether or not that’ll happen is still up to the powers that be, but Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, says he’d love to see Kevin Bacon take over the role.
While talking to CinemaBlend about his new movie Nightworld, Englund said that if he had to pass the Krueger torch to someone else, he wouldn’t be bad it if was Bacon.
Well the gossip I've heard, and I don't know how valid this is, but there has been some talk about using, or perhaps he's been approached, Kevin Bacon. Yeah. I think that would be great. He's in one of my favorite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven't seen it. And I just think Kevin's the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn't make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.
Bacon has more than proved himself game for the creepy, villainous types of roles (his starring turn as Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class, for instance), so he could certainly do right by Krueger under all that makeup. Plus, Bacon himself said a year ago that he’d be game for A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.
Will it happen? Who knows? Will we be mad if Bacon gets to wear that cozy striped sweater? Not in the least.
