According to a press release from the the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. TAPD was recently made aware of several reports of burglary to commercial vehicles at local hotels in the area.
The suspect seemed to be targeting specific vehicles for the expensive equipment contained on the trucks. Over a course of a couple of weeks, the suspect had stolen multiple items of specialty equipment and tools from commercial vehicles. Reports indicated the suspect would break into several vehicles on a given night, resulting in a substantial loss of property estimated at over $150,000.
The Criminal Investigation Division assigned a detective to night patrol focusing on the hotels in hopes of catching the suspect. On February 23, 2017 at approximately 2AM, Detective Romeo Cross observed a vehicle that had been identified as the suspect vehicle. Det. Cross watched as patrol units began responding to the area. The driver, identified as 22-year old Kyle Tucker, of Texarkana, Ark, exited the vehicle and attempted to break into a commercial vehicle in one of the hotels. Patrol Officers made contact with Tucker and subsequently arrested him for two outstanding felony warrants (one through Miller County and one through Bowie County S.O.). In addition to the attempted breaking or entering charge resulting from observation by Detective Cross.
Further investigation revealed that Tucker had much of the stolen property at a friend’s residence, where he had been staying. Detectives have recovered a large amount of property valued in excess of $100,000. Much of the property was found to be specialty tools specific to certain utilities. Subsequent investigation led the Criminal Investigation Division in obtaining an additional 15 warrants for his arrest. Tucker is currently being held at the Miller County S.O. on charges of 14 counts of Breaking or Entering, 2 counts of Theft over $5,000, 2 counts of Theft of $25,000, and one count of Theft of a Firearm.
The vast majority of the stolen property was recovered by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. The Criminal Investigation Division is working diligently to return the stolen property to its rightful owners.
It should be noted that Tucker was currently on bond for similar charges at the time of his arrest.
