The Texarkana, Texas Police Department has identified the man involved in the five-hour standoff in the 3300 block of Robinhood Lane on Saturday.

Police say Lance David Martin, 31, of Texarkana Texas died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound prior to SWAT officers entering the residence.

Officers were dispatched to the residence at 4:51PM on Saturday to check the welfare of Martin. A friend of Martin's reportedly called 9-1-1 and reported that she heard a gunshot while on the telephone with him and could not make contact with him afterwards.

While officers were enroute, the friend reported that she had received a text message from Martin but still wanted the officers to check on him. While Officers Colton Johnson and Cory Motley were at the front door of the residence trying to get Martin to answer the door, they reportedly heard a shot inside the home. The officers immediately sought cover behind a vehicle and then heard a second gunshot.

At the request of the on-duty patrol supervisor, the SWAT Team was activated and responded.  After officers set up a perimeter around the house, negotiators repeatedly tried without success to make contact with Martin over the course of the next five hours. At 9:55PM, the SWAT Team entered the residence after deploying a diversionary device.  They found Martin dead inside the residence of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  A .38 caliber pistol was found in his hand.

Martin’s body was sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for an autopsy.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety provided assistance during the incident.
