Texarkana Police Investigating Deadly Vehicle Crash
The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a deadly vehicle crash at the intersection of Richmond Road and Wheeler Street.
Authorities say the accident occurred just before 5:30 Tuesday afternoon. One of the drivers, 30 year old LaQuinia Hopkins, of Texarkana Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the preliminary investigation has determined that 25 year old Kalob Doyle, of Texarkana Arkansas, was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang southbound on Richmond Road. Hopkins was eastbound on Wheeler Street in her 2003 Toyota Avalon. As Hopkins attempted to cross Richmond Road, Doyle’s vehicle struck her in the driver’s side door. Hopkins’ vehicle suffered extensive damage, and she had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews.
Doyle was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
No charges have yet been filed in this case, but investigators believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
Authorities say Hopkins was not wearing a seat belt, while Doyle was wearing his seat belt.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or have other pertinent information is urged to call Texas side police at 903-798-3116.
