Surprise: Texarkana’s SportPlex Shuts Down This Week

The news dropped today after rumors have been floating around, that the SportPlex by Healthcare Express is shutting its doors for good, the last day is this Friday, February 23, 2024.

we were saddened to hear the news this morning, but the rumors were confirmed by a HealthCare Express statement on their website this afternoon:

It is with a mix of emotions that we inform you that the gym will be closing its doors on Friday, February 23rd. We understand that some of you may have already heard variations of this decision, and we wanted to provide you with clarity and transparency at this time.

The website states that the Sportplex campus is in the final stages of being sold to new owners and if we are reading it right, it doesn't sound like the new owners are going to continue the Sportplex fitness business as it is now.

The website also states that TwinCity Crossfit will remain open in its current location for about a month, and to please follow them on social media for updates.

The Sportplex will remain open the rest of the week, however;

due to recent incidents of vandalism and theft, we will only be open during staffed hours. Staffed hours will be from 5 am – 9 pm through Thursday, February 22 and 5 am – 5pm on Friday, February 23. Please take care to get any personal belongings from the Sportsplex campus including items in lockers.

Indeed it is a sad day that we say goodbye to the Sportsplex, and now we must wait with anticipation to find out what the new business will bring to the Ark-La-Tex.
