
Texas High Student Council Earns Top State and National Honors
It was a big win for student leadership at Texarkana ISD as Texas High School’s Student Council returned from the Texas Association of Student Councils conference with some major recognition.
The group earned the prestigious Sweepstakes Blue Ribbon for Outstanding Student Council, along with top awards in several categories, including community service, safety awareness, environmental efforts, and school pride.

Hard Work Behind the Awards at Texas High in Texarkana
According to a TISD press release, these honors didn’t come easy. Students completed at least 20 projects in each category and met more than 50 standards to qualify for the awards.
At the conference, council members also took part in leadership workshops and even led some sessions, showing their commitment to growing as leaders and making a difference.
Big Moments and Exciting News For TISD in Texarkana
The celebration didn’t stop there. A student-produced video by Sanders Wiggins earned a Top Ten Video Award, highlighting efforts to improve and reimagine Tiger Camp.
Texas High was also selected to host the 2028 state conference, which is another big honor that shows the strength of this program.

National Recognition Continues For Texas High
On top of the state awards, the council was once again named a National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils, marking this the 18th time they've earned that distinction.
Student-Driven Success
Leaders say what makes this group stand out is the heart behind the work. Every project is student-led, with ideas brought to life by the students themselves.
Advisor Susan Waldrep said the group continues to raise the bar, while Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker praised the district’s focus on building strong student leaders.
Looking Ahead For Texas High Student Council
With continued support from the district and community, these students are proving that leadership is more than just a title...it’s action. And for Texas High’s Student Council, this is only the beginning.
