This week's featured felon from the Texarkana Texas Police Department is Dementria Newton.

This week, The Texarkana Texas Police Department is looking for Dementria Newton, who currently has a warrant for Forgery. Here's how the TTPD tell the story on their Facebook page:

Once upon a time (back in March), there was a woman who wanted some money so she went to the bank to cash a check - because, you know, that's what banks usually do for people. Anyway, Dementria pulled up to the bank's drive through and sent the teller a $400 check made out to her and her Arkansas ID card. Well, everything was going great until the bank teller started to process the check. That's when she discovered that the account had been frozen a few months back because the owner had died late last year. Uh, oh... Now when Dementria realized a few minutes later that her evil plot had been foiled and they were on to her, she decided she'd better make a run for it. Like a flash, she was out of there. POOF!! Unfortunately for her though, she left both the check and her identification behind. The bank called 911, and a police officer went straight there. Because of the evidence in this case, the detective was able to get a warrant for her just a couple days later.

What's the moral of this story? If you're going to do something like this, our detectives are probably going to be able to figure out who you are and get a warrant for your arrest. If you leave your ID at the scene, they're not even going to have to break a sweat to do it.

If you know where to find Dementria Newton, please contact the Texarkana Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116 or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
