The Fall semester is almost here and Texas A&M University-Texarkana has updated its in-state tuition policy by the recent federal court ruling and guidance from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

New Requirements for In-State Tuition Eligibility

Starting with the Fall 2025 semester at Texas A&M-Texarkana, this change will affect students who previously qualified for in-state tuition under the Texas Education Code 54.053 (a)(3) but weren't able to show proof of lawful presence in the U.S.

Now, these students will be reclassified as out-of-state for tuition unless they can provide the new documentation that will meet the new requirements.

University Offers Support for Affected Students

Dr. Venus Lillis, the Vice President of Enrollment Management, said in a news release,

We know this news may be unsettling for some of our students, and we want them to know we’re here to help. Our top priority is supporting our students through this process and making sure they have access to the resources they need.

Documentation Needed to Meet New Rules

The University is reviewing all the residency statuses of students and is contacting any of them who might be affected by the new ruling. To meet the new requirements, students will need to show proof of lawful presence, which is the same documents you'd use to get a Real ID driver’s license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Students can call the Office of Admissions at (903) 223-3000 or email admissions@tamut.edu
