The latest scam being perpetrated on area citizens involves a fake check.

The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department says that scam is now being circulated around the area.

TAPD would like to warn all citizens of fake checks circulating in the mail. In this case, the check was sent to a citizen in a priority envelope, although the check appears to be legit it absolutely is not.

The police department advises that if it looks to good to be true it most likely is. Always do your very best to protect your self from becoming a victim by doing as much research as possible before cashing any check you receive in the mail that you are not previously expecting.

According to authorities throw it away, shred it,  but don't cash it. They say you will end up with the bill in the long run

If you need more information about this or any other scam contact the police department.
