The 2025 Caddo & East Texas Archaeological Conference is set for next weekend, February 21-22, at the Texarkana Convention Center. The conference will bring together archaeologists, historians, and community members to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Caddo Nation and East Texas.

The Conference is hosted by the City of Texarkana, Texas, in partnership with the Texarkana Convention Center, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, UT Tyler, and the Caddo Conference Organization. The event will feature presentations, panel discussions, and cultural performances. This year’s conference will also include a special dedication to the late Dr. Tom Anderson Middlebrook and Dr. Tim Perttula, both respected archaeologists known for their contributions to East Texas archaeology.

Steven F. Austin Director of Archaeology George Avery emphasized the value of the gathering, calling it an opportunity to share research, engage with the community, and honor Caddo history.

Friday’s events are reserved for registered attendees only, while Saturday, Feb. 22, is open to the public at no cost. Activities begin at 8:30 AM and include panel presentations, cultural vendors, children’s activities, and a special performance by the Caddo Culture Club featuring traditional dances and songs at 3 PM.

City of Texarkana, Texas Historic Preservation Officer Matt Solomon encouraged community participation, noting the event’s role in preserving and celebrating the region’s history.
