Have you heard Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed a new bill into law?  Senate Bill 189 now makes the over-the-counter drug medication Ivermectin readily available for anyone to use, according to a report from KATV.

Ivermectin Over-The-Counter

This medication was only available through a prescription but this move makes Arkansas the second state after Tennessee to make Ivermectin available over-the-counter. The topic became a hot issue in politics and a debate in the healthcare profession because of Ivermectin's unproven COVID-19 use and FDA warnings. The drug was developed as an antiparasitic treatment during the pandemic and became an alternative option for people seeking help with the COVID-19 virus. Lawmakers have been lobbying for increased access to alternative options and treatments.

Fun in Arkansas, reports that 12 states, including Texas and Oklahoma, have proposed bills that are in the works for OTC access but not verified.

Meanwhile, critics are concerned about the safety and usage of Ivermectin over-the-counter, and medical professionals are deeply concerned about incorrect dosing or an increase in self-medication without a proper diagnosis which could lead to adverse reactions.

Still Confusing

What is still confusing about over-the-counter Ivermectin is that the FDA still classifies it as a prescription-only drug. It's best to consult with your pharmacists before using and in some cases, the pharmacy may not comply with the new law yet.
