Keep Texarkana Beautiful, the Activated Alley Committee, and Communities Unlimited are inviting you to help shape a new public art and resource-awareness project in downtown Texarkana.

The initiative, called Doors of Hope, is funded through a $5,000 mini-grant from the Bridging the Gaps of Arkansas program. The project will transform the downtown alley connecting the Texas and Arkansas sides of Texarkana into an interactive walk featuring miniature doors that symbolize pathways to hope, healing, and support.

Each door will provide access to information about local services, including mental health resources, prevention programs, recovery support, educational opportunities, and community organizations throughout the region.

Get Ready To Walk

To gather public input, organizers will host a Walk Audit on Monday, June 22, at 5:30 PM. The walk will begin at Arkansas City Hall and give participants an opportunity to walk through the alley, discuss possible locations for the miniature doors, identify beautification opportunities, and share ideas for enhancing the space.

Organizers say community involvement is key to creating a meaningful experience that highlights available resources while encouraging residents and visitors to explore downtown Texarkana.

The Doors of Hope project will be developed throughout the summer, with completion expected by September 2026.

Tunnel 2 Towers Steel Across America - Texarkana Stop - June 3, 2026

On the 25th anniversary year of 9/11, this steel beam from the Twin Towers in New York that fell on September 11, 2001, is a must-see. The ceremony was very well done and featured short speeches from both Texarkana Mayors and Fire Chiefs. I know many in attendance weren't even alive when the attack happened 25 years ago, but for those of us who remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when the planes struck the towers, it was an amazing thing to see and touch. If you have the chance to witness this, you should. Find out more at T2T.org.
