Eek! Thousands of These Bugs in Arkansas Want in Your Home This Winter
There is a bug that is multiplying so fast, it's taking over the county. Even creepier is that with the cooler temperatures on the way this bug wants inside your home. The big fear is they can infest your house very quickly.
This insect is originally from Asia and researchers think it came over on shipping crates from China or Japan. It was first spotted in 1998 and has taken over 44 states (yes Arkansas is one of them) and four provinces in Canada.
According to the U of A Department of Agriculture
In eastern states where this pest is established, more than 25,000 bugs have been reported to be living in a single home over the winter.
Yikes! The insect is the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. We have a few hundred different species of stink bugs but these are different! They are ruining crops and they are moving into our houses. If you try to kill them, squash them or even vacuum them they will spray and make a vile smell.
Do Stink Bugs Bite?
Fortunately, they do not bite but they are a nuisance. And you really don't want hundreds or thousands of these critters getting into your house!
So How Do You Get Them Out of Your House?
First of all, don't step on them or crush them unless you love the stinky smell. There are ways to keep them out of your house. You'll need to check your doors' weather strips or cracks and holes around plumbing and utility lines coming into your house. The video below will show you how to prepare your house so it doesn't get infested.
