Shopping in Arkansas & You Hear ‘Code Brown’ on The Loud Speaker – Get Out!

Did you know that most stores have emergency codes that they can put out over their intercom or loudspeaker system to alert other employees of an emergency? Wouldn't it be nice if you the customer knew what those codes meant too?  We found out! 

Most places will try to keep their customers calm and try not to alarm them of trouble unless necessary. There are some codes that if you hear spoken on the intercom you might want to listen up and act fast. Usually, that 'act fast' action is to get out of the store as fast as possible.

A while back a Walmart employee listed the codes on Quora and also on commoncentsmom.com. A lot of these codes are used at stores and businesses across the county. Some of the meanings might be a little different depending on the location but still, it's good to have an idea about what some of these codes mean. And it's important to be prepared.

Most codes are colors but one to also be aware of is one that has a name, as in Code Adam which means a child is lost or missing.

Emergency Color Codes Are Usually as Follows:

Code White: Accident

Code Black: Severe Weather (tornado, flooding or wildfire)

Code Red: Fire

Code Yellow: non-hazardous chemical spill

Code Orange: Hazardous Chemical Spill

Code Blue: Bomb Threat

Code Green: Hostage Situation

 Code Brown: Shooting Threat or Active Shooter

Always try your best to be aware of your surroundings and always try to think about the closest exist for a quick and safe escape.

Let's just pray we don't ever have to hear any codes like these when we are out shopping.
