Garland County Fair & Rodeo in Hot Springs Sept. 11-19
While most fairs and rodeos have been canceled including the Four States Fair due to the Coronavirus, one fair near Texarkana is still on. The Garland County Fair in Hot Springs Arkansas is still scheduled to have their fair beginning this Friday, Sept. 11, with the Demolition Derby opening the fair.
Working with the Arkansas Health Department and the state, fair officials feel they have come up with a safe and effective plan to continue with this year's fair and rodeo following state safety protocols and guidelines to assure visitors a safe environment in which to enjoy the fair. According to the Hot Springs Sentinel, this will be a scaled-back version with limited capacity allowed. Masks are required to be worn during all events at the fair.
The longest Demolition Derby in the Country kicks off the Fair which runs from Sept. 11-19 at the Garland County Fairgrounds. However, there will no carnival this year because it was just too risky. The livestock show will still go as scheduled, featuring several county 4-H and FFA members who have worked really hard throughout the year to show off their livestock vying for the coveted Grand Champion belt buckle.
On the final two days of the fair, rodeo action will take place inside the main arena with some of the toughest cowboys taking on some of the meanest rip-roaring bulls in the land. The rodeo begins at 7PM each night.
This year, there will a day set aside on Sept. 15, to honor first responders and essential workers during the Car Show scheduled for that day.
