Great News! Red Dirt Master Gardeners to Offer Online Training This Fall
If you love to garden and would love to become a master gardener but that pesky work schedule is getting in the way, here is some great news. The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is proud to announce there will be a new option for the Fall Master Gardener Basic Training.
This Fall they will be offering both In-Person Training and Online Training. You choose the option that works best for you and you can still be a part of the state’s largest horticulture volunteer and education organization.
They will still have the In-Person where you attend the classes at the Miller County Extension Office Classroom on 5 Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. The classes will be on October 11 and October 25 then on November 1, November 8, and November 15.
The Online option will let you train at your own pace. Classes begin October 2 and must have the training course completed by December 8, 2023. You will need computer access.
According to a press release,
Trainees will learn about basic botany, soils and fertilizer, pest control and pesticide use. In addition, there will be classes on landscape design, vegetable and fruit gardening, annuals and perennials and other topics of interest to homeowners. Once the course is completed, you will be immersed in Master Gardener volunteer projects where you will be able to put newly learned skills to action and learn gardening secrets from other Master Gardeners.
The cost for either class is $150. The fee will include your manual and training supplies, plus your first year’s dues, and badge.
The deadline for applications is September 15, 2023, at 4 PM. Applications are available at the Miller County Extension Service office located at 1007 Jefferson Avenue across the street from Jefferson Park in Texarkana, Arkansas. Applications are also available at their website.
